Empower IoT innovations using Galileo technologies in partnership with Orange.

1 April 2021

Point.IoT 2021 is here – Get ready for another exhilarating year of empowered IoT innovations using Galileo technologies!

Shape the future of IoT solutions using advanced satellite positioning!

Point.IoT is a fast-paced programme that fosters the growth of next-generation IoT solutions using Galileo technologies. Now in its second year, Point.IoT aims to spark creativity and problem-solving among Europe’s most innovative IoT developers and entrepreneurs.

The rapid growth of IoT is a testament to its limitless potential. By extracting valuable data from the personal and professional lives of individuals, this powerful system of interconnected devices can generate an unprecedented number of insights while improving reactions and responses to the ever-changing competitive landscape. Combined with the enhanced accuracy and coverage that Europe’s Global Navigation Satellite System Galileo provides, these IoT solutions can truly propel the industry forward.

Innovators solve real-life corporate challenges!

Point.IoT offers teams of innovators and entrepreneurs the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and tackle important challenges that real companies face using IoT and Galileo. The programme is proud to announce this year’s challenges, which speak to the evolving needs of industry leaders:

Transportation & logistics in a connected world

Efficient transportation services are essential to maintain effective cross-border trade and fuel economic activity across Europe. In this challenge, participants will need to develop innovative solutions that cover every aspect of the logistics process from acquisition to distribution and quality assurance along the way.

Mobile robotics & automation as a competitive edge

Transformative growth is a critical driver of competition among companies. IoT, paired with mobile robotics and automation, is just one way companies leverage technology to reduce operating expenditures. In this challenge, participants will need to build an IoT solution that leverages mobile robotics and/or automation technologies to improve precision and efficiencies in the manufacturing and delivery of everyday products.

For more information on the details of each challenge, check out the Challenges page on the Point.IoT website.

What to expect:

Each year, ten teams of ambitious entrepreneurs are selected to develop the next generation of IoT solutions. This three-month entrepreneurial experience includes:

  1. An action-packed, two-day virtual bootcamp designed to kick-start IoT innovation. By the end of these combined training sessions, teams will feel prepared and energised for their three-month virtual sprint.
  2. Three months of technical and business sprints with access to leading industry experts for continuous guidance and support. These two tracks occur simultaneously, ensuring each team’s solutions are both technically robust and strategically positioned for market success.
  3. A Point.IoT demo day to celebrate the hard work and success of all the participants. all teams will pitch their solutions to the jury, which includes the programme’s partners. The jury will evaluate each team’s solution and decide on the overall winner and €20,000 cash prize recipient.

Introducing Galileo

Galileo is Europe’s Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). It provides positioning, navigation and timing information to users under a civilian controlled programme. While it’s completely autonomous, Galileo is also interoperable with GPS and GLONASS, allowing for enhanced accuracy, availability and faster time-to-first-fix. The Galileo system currently includes 28 satellites, and its performance will gradually improve as additional satellites are added to the constellation. Galileo will play a key role in IoT, providing advanced positioning, velocity and timing information required by the ever-growing number of connected devices, particularly in urban environments.
